Historical Martial Arts - Longsword: AdvancedFitnessThis class is an ongoing Intermediate to Advanced study of the Longsword in both sport and combat techniques as taught in the published works of 16th century fencing master Joachim Meyer (1537–1571) and other related historical texts. This is a hand's on (i.e. - "sword in hand") type of class with some limited academic discussion for context and relevance. Introduction to Yoga & Mindfulness (One-Day Workshop)FitnessCurious about yoga but not sure where to start? This welcoming, beginner-friendly class is the perfect place to begin. Led by experienced instructor Debomita Basu, this one-time session introduces the foundations of yoga and mindfulness in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Participants will be guided through a gentle flow that focuses on breath awareness, basic alignment, and simple strength-building movements. In addition to practicing together, you’ll leave with practical tools and strategies you can use to build or deepen your own yoga practice at home. Whether your goal is stress relief, increased flexibility, or simply trying something new, this class is designed to meet you where you are. If you’re interested in continuing your practice after this session, participants will have the opportunity to explore additional offerings with long-time Community Education instructor Michael Ledman or continue learning with Debomita Basu at her studio location. The non-competitive and introspective nature of Japanese archery allows practitioners to gain insight into their personalities. Individual instruction is given by John and Carly Born, both Renshi 5th dan. Visit www.mnkyudo.org for more information. *Instructors collect an additional $25 to cover the cost of your own practice bow. Annual membership in the Minnesota Kyudo Renmei association is required for returning students. Loaner equipment provided for most adults.Spring/Summer 2026 -

Longsword Foundations 1 (Ages 16 and up)FitnessCome learn the basics of fighting with the European Longsword - the same weapon you’ve seen used by people like Geralt, King Arthur, and many Knights throughout history. This class is based on the published works of fencing master Joachim Meyer of Strasbourg (1534-1571) and is taught by a team of instructors from the St. Paul Freifechter. During this 8-week class, you will learn: >The basic and foundational techniques of combat with the European Longsword >Common historical vocabulary and terminology for the principles and techniques. >How to be a competent and safe training and sparring partner. Requirements (i.e. - what *you* need to bring): Comfortable/athletic clothing , Comfortable shoes as each session is 2 hours "on your feet" , Fencing mask, Light leather work/gardening gloves What will be provided: Training swords for use during classes.
